I drove by Crooked Lake on Saturday and noticed a big spectacle out on the ice. There were trucks with large trailers and lots of commotion. The white snow and ice were a great backdrop to the sea of colors donned by everyone involved. I decided to pull into the park and walk onto the ice to see what was happening. There was a positive, wholesome vibe all around with a mix of grown ups and children everywhere and there were lots of itty, bitty snowmobiles whirring around. I talked to a man who told me a little more about what was going on. He said it was the final race day of the year for the “Kids Pro” circuit. This particular group is based in the Twin Cities and the kids range from age 4 -14, including boys and girls.
You could tell the kids were juiced and totally energized with the whole environment by the organized chaos that generally ensues whenever kids are having a great time and engrossed in something they love. It was an infectious atmosphere!
If you’d like to find out more about the organization, they have a website at www.kidsproice.org. I was really impressed and energized by the whole thing and was glad I stepped onto the ice to see what was happening!
