Almost 10 years ago, Trish Needham saw an opportunity for herself to become a real estate agent. With a new baby on the way, she saw it as a way to have a challenging and rewarding career that would allow her the flexibility she needed to be a great mother to her son, Derrick. That, along with her family and friends has allowed her to be a success on all fronts. “I have the best family and friends a person can ask for. Our schedule is nothing less than insane between Derrick and I, but if I need it, I know help is just a call away.”
Trish cites flexibility as the best advantage in choosing to become a real estate agent. “I’m out in the field a lot, but being able to work from home when I need to is a huge advantage. Kids get sick and school tends to close a lot, with technology as it is, I can literally work from anywhere, and sometimes that is snuggled up on the couch with a sick child.”
She’s also managed to turn the challenges into great teaching moments. “The hours in this career can get a bit crazy, and that can sometimes be challenging. But one thing I’ve learned is that if I need to bring Derrick along sometimes, more people appreciate it than don’t. Plus, he’s gotten pretty handy with a tape measure over the years. He’s also learned that hard work and persistence pay off. This career is never the same day to day, but it’s rewarding and I love what I do. If he can learn that as well as finding something that he loves to do, that would be wonderful because not everyone can say that about their career choice.”
In fact, Trish feels her real estate training has made her a better mother. “Derrick is my toughest client! Taking classes on negotiating has certainly come to my benefit in negotiating with a tired kid to get up, get ready and brush his teeth. Along with extreme patience and knowing that everything doesn’t always go as planned, sometimes you just have to go with the flow and that’s okay.” ~Wanda Boldon
